What coins actually pay for
Coins are spent only when the platform does something intelligent: transcribing a session, generating a scene recap, producing a session summary, automatically linking compendium entities, extracting and advancing quests, or refreshing descriptions that have fallen behind the story. Video chat, text chat, image uploads, dice rolls, and managing the compendium, including rolling changes back from an entry's History, are always free and never touch a coin balance.
The background helpers that do this work during a session are called gardeners: entity extraction, quest extraction, and description auto-sync. Each can be turned off for a realm, so a session only spends coins on the ones you want.
Transcription runs roughly 130 coins per hour of recorded audio. A typical three-hour session (transcription plus the scene recaps and summaries that come with it) usually lands around 390–490 coins.
Coins are never tied to a single person. When a session is recorded, the cost splits evenly across every participant present who has a coin balance, not just whoever started the recording, so a party of Storytellers shares the bill automatically.
Pricing FAQ
Do I need a subscription to play?
No. Anyone can join a realm, chat, roll dice, and build out the compendium without ever subscribing. Coins in your wallet fed through a subscription or coin pack are only needed to trigger AI features: recording, live transcription, and all downstream intelligence features.
Do players need to pay?
No single player has to. Only one person at the table needs coins to start a recorded session, and if several players in the party have coins, the cost of that session splits evenly across everyone present with a balance, so no one player carries the whole bill.
What happens when coins run out?
Nothing dramatic. The session just stops recording. If every present participant's coin balance hits zero mid-session, the session ends automatically, in both the web app and Discord. Everything already captured stays saved.
