Getting Started

Coins

Coins power every AI feature in Realms of Shod. Transcription, scene recaps, session summaries, and compendium automation all run on coins.

Inside a realm, your coin balance is always visible at the top of the page. As you play your sessions, see exactly what each action costs in real time.

From the H.U.B., open your user settings to manage your subscription or launch the coin machine to purchase ration packs — all without leaving the page.

Coins fuel the magic.

Any time the platform does something intelligent (transcribing your session, generating a scene recap, producing a session summary, or automatically identifying and linking compendium entities), coins are consumed. The more you play, the more coins you use.

Features that don't require AI (video chat, text chat, image uploads, dice rolls, and managing the compendium) are always free and never touch your coin balance.

Every new account receives a free coin grant on sign-up to get started without any commitment. From there, coins come from two sources:

Storyteller subscription

A monthly subscription that adds coins to your balance automatically each billing cycle. Basic ($6/mo) suits regular adventurers; Pro ($15/mo) offers the best value for heavy users.

Ration packs

Prefer no ongoing commitment? Purchase ration packs on demand and top up whenever you need them.

When multiple Storytellers are in a session at the same time, the coin cost is split evenly among everyone who is actively present. So if three players with coins are all in the realm together, each person covers roughly a third of the bill.

The split is calculated at the moment each AI feature runs, based on who is currently in the session (or left within the last five minutes). Players without coins are never charged and don't affect how the cost is divided among those who do have them.

Running low on coins doesn't lock you out. Players without coins are known as squires. They retain full access to video chat, text chat, image uploads, dice rolls, and the compendium. What squires can't do is initiate session recording, since that's what triggers AI features.

Any Storyteller in the realm (someone who does have coins) can start the session on behalf of the whole party. Squires contribute fully to the adventure; they just need a Storyteller to light the way.

If every member with coins runs out mid-session, the session ends automatically — both in Realms of Shod and in Discord.
