Going Public

Public Compendium

Publishing a realm never publishes your whole Compendium. Exactly one setting decides what outsiders can see: Public to Realm. Here's how it works and who it reaches.

Every entity and every relationship is shared in one of two ways, chosen in its edit form.

Public to Realm

Every current and future member can see it, including people who join later. When the realm is public, this also includes signed-in guests and your audience.

Specific members

Turn Public to Realm off and choose exactly which members can view it. These items are never shown to guests, never counted on your preview page, and only reach audience members you pick by name.

A relationship is only visible to someone who can also see both of the entities it connects, so revealing a relationship never leaks a hidden character on its own.

Compendium visibility on a public realm

TypeDescription
AnyoneOnly counts: the number of public entities and public relationships on your preview page. No names, descriptions, or images, and nothing on your creator profile.
Signed-in guestsFull entries marked Public to Realm: names, descriptions, images, and relationships. Nothing shared only with specific members.
AudienceEverything a guest sees, plus anything you have individually shared with them. They can also export what they can see.
Members and upUnchanged. Public to Realm items plus anything shared with them individually.

Guests and audience never see who else has access to an entry, and they can never see realm Notes or anyone's personal entity notes.

The public entities and public relationships stats on your preview page count only items marked Public to Realm. They're a signal of how much of your world a newcomer can explore once they step inside. Revealing more raises the numbers; keeping things hidden never shows up anywhere public.

Every reveal action turns on Public to Realm. On a public realm, that means it reaches guests too, so treat a reveal as publishing.

Reveal Entity to Realm

From an entity's menu. Makes that one entity Public to Realm.

Reveal All Relationships

From an entity's menu. Makes every relationship touching that entity Public to Realm. The entities on the other end stay hidden unless they are revealed too.

Reveal Entities

From the Compendium list, after selecting several entities. Reveals them all at once.

Reveal prompts

After a session mentions a hidden entity, you may be asked whether to reveal it. Accepting reveals it to the whole realm, not just that session's players.

Revealing also gives every current member their own individual access. If you later turn Public to Realm back off, guests and new arrivals lose sight of the item, but existing members keep it until you remove them from its access list.

  • Filter your Compendium and skim what is marked Public to Realm.

  • Hide villains, twists, and secret locations by turning Public to Realm off.

  • Keep GM prep in Notes or your personal entity notes. Neither is ever public.

  • Reveal a few iconic characters and places so guests have something to explore.
